It is an exciting time in America for cannabis culture. The snowball effect of individual states enacting realistic legislation is indeed happening. From medical marijuana laws to outright decriminalization and legalization, states and cities are passing laws that reflect the shift of attitudes in America regarding cannabis. Inner cities like Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles have decriminalized personal amounts which addresses unfair policing targeting people of color. Entire states as remote as Alaska, as technologically influential as Washington and as groundbreaking as Colorado, Oregon and Washington DC have legalized entirely. Nevada is poised to embrace cannabis tourism and legalize recreational use soon. Tax revenue from cannabis is already netting millions of dollars and will push past the billion dollar mark once California inevitably legalizes. Popular opinion is affecting politicians' stance on medical and recreational cannabis. Poll after poll, including the well known Gallup Poll, are showing that by far the majority of Americans support overall legalization. "Americans' support for legalizing marijuana is the highest Gallup has measured to date, at 58%," the survey concludes. "Given the patterns of support by age, that percentage should continue to grow in the future." These numbers are undeniable to the extent that even Republican contenders like Donald Trump are softening their positions on marijuana legalization. Bernie Sanders, pictured above, is addressing the failure of cannabis prohibition as one of the major platforms of his campaign for Presidency. The current law scheduling cannabis as a dangerous drug with no medical value is absurd. This absurdity is comprehended by the contradiction of the US gov't holding the patent no. 6630507. In short the patent covers the use of "cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants". All the while, Gov't agencies are destroying families and peoples lives for growing medical marijuana. There is a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of de-funding Drug Enforcement Agency programs of meddling in State sanctioned medical marijuana operations by Congress. Supreme Court rulings are also a definitive example of a pivot away from inconsistent and contradictory protocols by these Gov't agencies. Popular opinion is becoming the driving force in politicians' attitudes in regards to the beneficial properties of cannabis. The stories of desperate parents having amazing success giving their children CBD oils for controlling seizures are constant. NFL players treating traumatic head injuries with medical marijuana is a reality. Our Veterans finding relief from PTSD symptoms from cannabis instead of debilitating narcotics is gaining publicity via community work by Veterans' rights advocate groups like Weed for Warriors Project (@WFW_PROJECT). We are seeing proof that the most dangerous aspect of cannabis is the effect of prohibition laws on the public. Cannabis is no longer a joked upon, brushed under the carpet topic. Rather the subject as a whole could possibly affect the race for Presidency in the US. Support for reform of marijuana laws is stronger than the high water mark left in the 1970's. The cannabis revolution in America could quite possibly be a revolution in economic, social and health systems of America, a true healing of the Nation.
